Where the time goes

Most of a business return isn't tax work.

It's chasing statements, fixing a year of categories and mapping the trial balance by hand. Cratchit does that part all year, so what's left is the return and the advice.

TodayChasing bank statements, 1099s and the K-1 that's still missing
With CratchitBank and card feeds connected all year, and tax documents collected in one place
TodayRecategorizing twelve months of transactions in February
With CratchitSorted as they happen. The owner is asked only about the ones Cratchit can't tell
Today"What was this $12,000 in June?" emails in March
With CratchitAnswered in the month it happened, while the owner still remembers
TodayMapping accounts to return lines and rekeying them into your software
With CratchitEvery account already matched to the 1120-S, 1065, Schedule C or Schedule E, in a file your software imports

Closed every month

The books are current in June, not just in April.

Bank and card feeds come in daily and get sorted. Each month runs through a short close: feeds up to date, questions answered, accounts reconciled, month locked.

Your clients, one page

See who's ready before you open a single file.

Every client who adds you shows up on one page with where they stand for the tax year.

  • Which months are closed
  • How many transactions are still unsorted
  • Which tax lines still need your eye
  • Which tax documents are in and which are still expected

For your firm

  • More returns, same teamThe hours that went into cleanup go into returns. That's room for more business clients without hiring for tax season.
  • Fewer extensionsWhen the books close every month, a return can start the day the year ends.
  • Time for advice clients pay forCurrent numbers all year mean you can talk salary, estimates and big purchases while there's still time to act.

For your clients

  • They know where they standCurrent books, cash and an estimate of what they'll owe, all year, instead of finding out in April.
  • No year-end scrambleNo shoebox and no weekend spent sorting a year of statements.
  • Their whole picture in one placeTheir businesses, family finances and investments together, so your advice can cover all of it.
Jason Lampman
I built Cratchit to run the books for my own companies. It only works if it makes my CPA's job easier, not harder, so that's how it's built. If you work with business owners, tell us what would make it better for you.
Jason Lampman, founder of Cratchit

How it works

Your client adds you. You sign in.

  1. Your client adds youUnder Settings, People, they pick "Our CPA".
  2. You get an emailSign in at app.cratchit.io with a six-digit code. No password to keep.
  3. You see what they shareThe companies and the parts of their personal finances they chose, nothing more.
  4. At year end, downloadOpen Tax lines, check the matches and download the file for your software.

Built to work alongside you. Cratchit keeps the books and shows owners where they stand. It doesn't prepare or file returns, and it never asks your clients to choose between it and you. When it points out a tax move, it shows the numbers so you and your client can decide together.

Questions

Does it cost me anything?

No. Your clients' subscriptions cover your access, for as many clients as add you.

What do my clients get?

20% off their first year when they sign up through your link, on top of the 10 free days. If a client already uses Cratchit, they can add you anytime under Settings, People.

Which tax software does it work with?

Anything that imports a trial balance from Excel. UltraTax codes are built into the file, and there are import notes for Lacerte, CCH Axcess and Drake.

Can I see everything about a client?

Only what they share. Owners choose which companies you see and which parts of their personal finances, like investments and tax documents.

Can I fix the books myself?

If the client gives you permission to make changes, yes. Otherwise you can see everything they shared without changing it.
